Project involved setting design standards, applying them and monitoring construction of repairs and reconstruction.

Roads, bridges, schools, hospitals, public buildings, water supply projects were assigned to six Philippines consultants who were advised by overseas specialists.

Three New Zealanders were involved in the project over a two year period, including David Hopkins for 18 months as Programme Technical Specialist with principal responsibilities for buildings.

During this assignment, David Hopkins made a number of presentations to the local engineering community to promote good practice in earthquake risk mitigation.
