1.17 Strengthening Disaster Mitigation and Management at the State Level in India

  • Strengthening Disaster Mitigation and Management at the State Level in IndiaBeca currently has a commission with the Asian Development Bank as Earthquake Science Specialist for this US$ 1m Technical Assistance Project in India (ADB TA 3379-IND)

  • Existing earthquake risk management systems including seismic hazard mapping strategies and engineering studies to determine building and essential public service systems are being reviewed.

  • Outputs from the project include; preparation of training and/or public awareness manuals (in English and Hindi), preparation of textbooks on disaster management for secondary schools, inputs for Indian National Day for Disaster Reduction in UP, publishing of guidelines for earthquake safety, preparation of model disaster management plans for urban areas and preparation of an action plan for retrofitting and seismic strengthening of existing buildings.
